This course examines Eelam’s position within the broader contexts of globalism and nationalism, and the ongoing shift towards a multipolar world order. Students will analyze the challenges and opportunities presented by multipolarity, including economic integration, diplomatic strategies, and geopolitical shifts. The course also covers how Eelam can navigate and leverage its position in a rapidly changing global landscape to achieve its national objectives.


Short-Course Lectures

The Shift Towards Multipolarity

This lecture focuses on the ongoing transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world order. Students will analyze the causes and consequences of this shift, including the rise of new global powers such as China and India. The lecture will explore the implications of multipolarity for international relations and global governance, providing a framework for understanding how Eelam can navigate and benefit from this complex landscape.

Nationalism, Globalism, and Eelam

This lecture provides an in-depth examination of the concepts of nationalism and globalism and their implications for Eelam. Students will explore the historical evolution of these ideas, their theoretical foundations, and their practical applications. The discussion will highlight how Eelam can balance nationalist aspirations with global integration to foster both national identity and economic development.

Great Power Politics and Eelam

This lecture delves into the dynamics of great power politics and their impact on Eelam. Students will study the strategies and interests of major global powers, such as the United States, China, Russia, and the European Union, and how these powers interact with and influence Eelam. The lecture will cover the geopolitical interests of these powers in the South Asian region and how Eelam can strategically position itself to engage with these actors effectively.

Eelam’s Diaspora and International Relations

This lecture examines the role of the Eelam diaspora in shaping international perceptions and policies. Students will explore how the diaspora engages in transnational politics, advocacy, and cultural promotion. The lecture will cover the influence of the diaspora in countries such as Canada, the UK, and Australia, and its impact on Eelam’s international relations and diplomatic strategies.

Realism, Liberalism, and Eelam

This lecture explores the application of major international relations theories—realism and liberalism—to the context of Eelam. Students will analyze how these theories explain the behavior of states and non-state actors involved in the Eelam conflict and its aftermath. The lecture will cover topics such as power politics, security dilemmas, international cooperation, and the role of international institutions in conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
